CHIKARA week!! Interview with CHIKARA referee Bryce Remsburg!!

Ahead of CHIKARA’s trip to the UK at the end of May and as part of our CHIKARA week on the blog, we had a chat with CHIKARA referee and all round nice guy, Bryce Remsburg. Find him on Twitter at @dabryceisright
What first got you into watching pro wrestling?

The Ultimate Warrior went dashing to the ring in a neon blur, and I knew I was hooked!

Who was your favourite wrestler when you were a kid?

I grew to be quite the Shawn Michaels fan! I don’t think my asking a leather hat and heart shaped sunglasses for Christmas was my dad’s favorite thing ever…

What made you want to be a pro wrestling referee?

I knew I didn’t have the athletic ability to go as a wrestler, but it was a great way to be a part of the action. And I didn’t have to pay for indy shows anymore, hehe…

What has been your favourite CHIKARA show you have been a part of?

King of Trios 2011 as a weekend was amazing for so, so many reasons.

What has been your favourite match you have officiated so far in CHIKARA?

On one of Sara del Rey’s final wrestling appearances, she wrestled Eddie Kingston for the Grand Championship in Portland, Maine. It was an amazing match, and one of the first great intergender indy matches of the current trend.

Who has been the biggest influence on your career?

Learning so much, both in and out of the ring from Mike Quackenbush has shaped my wrestling mind in indescribable ways.

Who is your favourite CHIKARA wrestler to watch in the ring?

Watching people realize that Fire Ant is such an incredible wrestler is one of my favorite things to observe from in the ring.

CHIKARA is heading to the UK in May, what are you most looking forward to about crossing the pond?

Meeting more diehard fans, and drinking so much Lucozade my stomach bursts.

What do you think of the current state of pro wrestling?

There are SO many options, there is someting for everyone. It’s a great time for wrestling fans of all kinds and ages.

What has been the proudest moment in CHIKARA career so far?

When our first iPPV High Noon went on the air, it felt like we had arrived.

What are your ambitions in CHIKARA for 2016?

Continue to spread the gospel of what we do, and convert the uninitiated one fan at a time.

If you could pick a dream King Of Trios team for this year, who would you pick?

Andy Kaufman, Randy Savage, and Colt Cabana. Collectively, they represent everything I adore about pro wrestling.

What does wrestling mean to you?

It’s brought me so many places, so many experiences and so many of my best friends. I can’t imagine life without it.

If someone has never seen CHIKARA, what should they expect?

A sensory overload experience. Leave all your preconceived notions of professional wrestling at home, show up with an open mind and allow us to blow it.

What kind of referee should the UK fans expect to see when you officiate a match?

A devilishly handsome one that loves your country and used to have more hair.
